Reviewing Troy Ross’ Conflict Statements

As previously reported, Troy Ross only filed his Statements of Economic Interest for the years 2011-2013 on July 23. They have since been published. Those who were hoping for light to be shed on any potential conflicts Mr. Ross may have will be sorely disappointed. The documents are severely deficient at best and gross misrepresentations at worst. We review below:

2011

  • Ross lists his wife’s occupation as an educator, but fails to list any income.
  • Ross doesn’t show any income from Chevron during this period. This is in direct conflict with his campaign literature which highlights his tenure at the refinery from 2008-2011.
  • He lists no stock holdings in Chevron greater than $5,000.

2012

  • Fails to list income from JCBOS.
  • Ross lists his wife’s occupation as an educator, but fails to list any income.

2013

  • Fails to list income from JCBOS.
  • Ross lists his wife’s occupation as an educator, but fails to list any income.

2014

  • Fails to list income from JCBOS.
  • Fails to list income from National Guard
  • Ross lists his wife’s occupation as an educator, but fails to list any income.

Ross has filed the statements, but has made only a perfunctory effort in completion of same.

Ross should supplement his filings to the Ethics Commission to reflect his sources of income and any potential stock holdings during his years on the board.

Those who are not as patient may file a complaint with the Mississippi Ethics Commission.

  1. Troy Ross has been in an apprenticeship program at the BOS under the influence and direction of John McKay. No rules or laws seem to apply. He did not properly file the necessary Statements of Economic Interest as pointed out earlier here on SRHS Watch. He is or was in violation of the laws of Ms.and is subject to a sizable fine. Is this the kind of elected leadership we need in Jackson County? If he can’t even file simple paperwork for over 4 years in a row, how could he be expected to comprehend or help resolve the hospital situation? He is now a puppet without a master and will be totally lost if re-elected.

  2. They (State Ethics link you gave) will not accept anonymous reports. We have called them. They said there is nothing they can do. Employees cannot risk their jobs by giving their names. Senator Michael Watson is in business, as an owner, with doctors and an administrator in a lucrative lab company (Certus) that took business away from Singing River. The doctors and administrator worked on this full time while they were supposed to be working as employees of Singing River. Why isn’t that considered theft of state/county money by the doctors and administration, and why is it not unethical for the Senator to be getting tons of money from this business that f*cks Singing River? Now today I heard Memorial hired them all. Isn’t Memorial a government entity? How can they all get away with this.
They should have to give all their ill-gained profits to the pension. Not fair.
